Or were you always a Conservative? How many Conservatives were Liberal before they switched?
I suspect that most of these people were never actually ';liberals';... only following what their friends were doing...
you can read most conservatives posts now about liberals... and see that they have NO CLUE what liberals think or why they do what they do...
so... clearly, they were never really an actual active liberal...
going to college, smoking pot and blindly supporting democrats does not make you a liberal... it makes you basically a-political, only taking on a political identity for social acceptance...How many Conservatives were Liberal before they switched?
I started out very liberal. In my first Democratic primary (1984), I voted for Jesse Jackson then in the general election I voted for Mondale/Ferraro. Reagan won by a landslide.
I voted every year but I was getting more conservative. The next presidential election I went Republican. I've mostly voted Republican since then except for once when I voted Independent (Ross Perot).
I don't know the statistics of it, but it is not uncommon. My father was a Dem when he was young, but once he got a job and had to pay for everything himself and saw where all his tax money was going, he became a conservative Rep. My mom was always conservative. I have heard of very few cases of conservatives becoming liberals, though.
I've always been conservative myself.
I was a liberal in college before I had to join the real world, make a living, and raise children, then I realized the blessings that God has given me, and to continue to be a liberal would be to spit in God's face, so I joined the side of the good guys (conservatives).
Always conservative !
Brunoo you are so wrong I grew up in a very conservative and active political family, I've been conservative since I registered to vote at 18, I am over 50 but I have an IPOD I understand how to use it, I understand computers set up four in my home on a network, and do all the maintaince. We aren't all no teckys I know more about my computers than my kids do and the oldest is 33.
Many of us start out as liberals, but as we get older and gain wisdom we seem to evolve to the conservative side.
Winston Churchill once said: ';When you are twenty years old and not a liberal, you have no heart. When you're forty years old and not a conservative, you have no brain !';
Never a liberal but, democrat? Yes. My whole family supported Kennedy. He was the last democrat but, with what is known now, I wouldn't have.
Edit: Galaxie, you are right, I have never heard of a conservative becoming liberal. Like most of the answers : lib to conserv.
When I was young, I was a lot like the young people on here(except not as idiotic and stupid..see ';Victory over Posuers'; for an example) believing that Fairness and Truth could be the Law of the World. Then I had to get a job and see how my hard earned dollars supported Left WIng idiot ideas and plans and I wised up and became Smart. Too bad people like ';Victory over Posuers'; are such idiots with no hopes.
I was a Liberal in my younger foolish days. I hate to admit it now, but I voted for Bill Clinton...twice.
Once I got away from the constant brain washing of the school and college systems, I learned how to think for myself a little and realized I was voting for the wrong side.
I used to think I was a liberal, until I started researching paleoconservative philosophies.
Sadly, they aren't used much today.
I was liberal until I was about 25, I realized the left often promotes bogus agendas, but they use euphemism and emotion to sway their affiliates into thinking it's a '; good '; cause
in my teen and young adult years circa 1968-1974 i considered myself liberal, but then i grew up and changed the error of my thinking.
I was raised by a strongly conservative family, and I have considered my self a Conservative ever since I was in the 5th grade, the first presidential election I could actually understand lol.
I don't vote liberal or conservative, I vote on who goes the best with my views. I'm conservative minded but that doesn't mean I'll always vote Republican.
I was liberal minded before I had to get a job.
If you're not a liberal when you're young, you have no heart. If you're not a conservative when you're old, you have no brain
Oh, sure. Part of the life cycle. I don't build tree houses or go trick-or-treating anymore either. You eventually grow up and gain wisdom. Loosing liberalism is kind of like loosing your baby teeth.
I was also liberal minded in the seventies. I grew up.
I've been working full time since I was 15 so I've always been a conservative.
I was a liberal back in the seventies when I was a college student and a pothead. Then I grew up.
I was pretty Liberal until I had my boy.
I think most parents are very conservative.
I didn't say ALL so don't launch on me, but that's what did it for me.
When I was 14 or so, I was pretty liberal. I grew up and researched and changed my views.
To be conservative, I think you have to be at least 50yo. When you are younger, you see things clearly and you were recently in school that has taught you good values.
Then, when you start not to understand technology such as iPods ... you regret your old K7 players, become nostalgic, and turn conservatives so you can promote the use of VCRs and the floppy disk
Always been liberal.... as for the conservatives who will answer please also include: Did you get a traumatic head injury before going conservative?
