What caused the south to become more conservative instead of being liberal?

A lot of people say racism. I think there's some. But I see it on both sides. Every day, practically.





There are two different worlds down here. It isn't because of the law. It isn't because of the government, because we make sure the government follows the law down here.





I think it's just a lifestyle choice, a cultural matter. Some people choose to live one way. Others choose to live a different way. And the US Constitution protects the freedom to choose this. What the US Constitution does not protect is the right of the federal government to take money from one group and hand it to another. And I think that's what's really upsetting folks down here.What caused the south to become more conservative instead of being liberal?

the south was always more conservative. They believe in a white supremacist aristocracy. That's what the Confederate flag stood for and that's what the Confederates fought for and the Republican Party today still fights for.
LBJ embraced the civil rights movement. That was when the Dixiecrats became Republicans.
Institutionalized slavery was probably the main factor.
