I thought Libs portray themselves as being tolerant but I guess they are only tolerant if you think the same way that they do?Why does it seem like its cool amongst liberal Democrats to be atheists and to make fun of people that are not?

Well, I'm an atheist (An ignostic, really, but no one seems to know what that is, so atheist is close enough) and I'm not really a democrat. Financially, I line up with old republican, small-government values, even though I tend to be liberal when it comes to some social issues. I don't make fun of anyone who isn't an atheist; my studies in psychology have taught me that different people are ordered in different ways, and that religion can be a big part of a functional, pro-social person's mental framework. The main problem in this country appears to be this rampant over-simplification of human nature; this belief that religious or political affiliation can determine a person's worth. People are being conditioned to reject anything that is associated with 'the opposition' as bad without first examining it. This polarizes society, creating two groups of extremists. Each of these thinks that their ideas are superior just because they are opposite to the other side's beliefs, even though both sets of ideas are equally stupid. People need to stop being lazy and start examining people and ideas on an individual basis, instead of separating things along political and religious lines out of convenience...
Some atheists get annoyed that religion is ';stuffed down their throat';- at least that is how they feel.





I am not atheist but not Christian either. I am much more tolerant than many people, but even I get annoyed by Christians trying to push their religion. I think the answer is most of them don't want to keep others from being Christian/Religious but don't want it pushed on them. They firmly believe that part of religious freedom is freedom from religion.
Oh my oppressed jezus freak, you and your kind had great times running your mouth spreading hate about Atheists, Agnostic, Wiccans, Pagans, and other beliefs, but then you cry, scream, whine, and howl, when people like you get put in your place. For your info I was a born again christian for a couple of years till I found out who they really are.Now for the last 10 years I'm a proud Agnostic. So stop the whining, and grow a nut sac.
So you're saying religion has never ';decayed society';? Religion is and will always be the problem. Taliban used their religion as justification to blow up the World Trade Center. Christians used their religion to start the crusades.

you have to be willing to question things you have been conditioned all your life NOT TO QUESTION!





and, the more open minded a person is, the more likely they are to be liberal too.
i'm not a ';democrat'; but i am tolerant to others regardless of differences. i'm not religious, but i respect if someone else is equally to if they are not (so long as they dont kill in the name of their religion)
It's not cool to be an atheist...it's logical.





Logical thinkers are atheists. That same logical thinking leads many to become liberal and vote in favor of the Democrats.
We celebrate and embrace the final decay of a totally rotten-to-the-core belief system that has no scientific, reality-based validity!

It has nothing to do with being cool. We see no evidence a supernatural being. Some, might make fun of you, but that probably comes from the religious right trying to force it on us.
Most atheists don't align with either party, but they don't like the parasitic republican ideology.
