Is it true that most American Professors are Liberal?

These are some of the most intelligent people in the country. If this is true, doesn't this tell you something?





PS: I don't mean to offend anyone by this, it is merely a question.Is it true that most American Professors are Liberal?
I must speak from years and years of experience here.





It is not at all true that most American professors are liberal, or conservative, or religious, or irreligious.





Every single institution at which I have taught has representatives from every imaginable political, religious, and cultural point of view.





However, there does seem to be a link between level of education and:


- appreciation for diversity and inclusivity


- rigor of reasoning


- independent thinking


- desire for social, cultural, and political PROGRESS (rather than nostalgia for things as they were in the past)

Yes. The entire educational system (especially teachers unions) in this country is supported by the left, and alot of them are far left. Not all of them of course, but some are off the scale (Alan Dershowitz for ex). I am not a conservative, but it's too bad we can't have more centrist thought in our schools.
Yeah, it tells me that their education notwithstanding, they have no concept of the real world.
I'd say that most of the ones I've had have been liberal.
In my experience, they definitely are. And, as for being the most intelligent people in the world..not sure about that. No doubt they know their stuff, but when you study politics, you tend to gravitate towards what you believe, and when you teach, it is hard to seperate your beliefs from your teaching...thus an agenda is born. I wish they were neutral, so people could get a valid education, and then decide for themselves.
Intelligent maybe, but indoctrinated? More likely.
Not necessarily true. Most business schools, for example, are filled with conservative professors. The idea that professors are liberal is just a stereotype--it's an unuseful generalization.
I agree with Soga. Also you find that liberalism swings depending on which department you are looking into.
