Is anyone who disagrees with anything the neocons stand for automatically a liberal?

I'm a proud member of the republican party. I own several guns, have extensive holdings in the stock market, drive American cars and have 2 pit bulls. However, because I'm in favor of things like universal health care and civil liberties, I find myself constantly being called a 'liberal' by my fellow republicans. Is this fair? Are there other Republicans out there that feel betrayed by where the party has gone recently? Is anyone who disagrees with anything the neocons stand for automatically a liberal?
Most of the Republicans that still have brains feel like that, actually.

The problem is the Republican leadership that keeps framing things in a ';with us or against us'; mentality. So they *want* to put everything as ';if you're not 100% with us, you're a liberal that we don't need to talk to';.Is anyone who disagrees with anything the neocons stand for automatically a liberal?
You are indeed a liberal.
Of course not, in the classic meaning of the word Liberal, the Republican party fit the criteria almost precisely. Since you support Universal Health Care, I'd say you fit the criteria of a Neo-Marxist.
well... the problem is... they started yelling at people like you and called you a bunch of names...

and then many of those folks went ';I don't want to be a part of your party anymore';... and either went to the dems or the libertarians...

Republcians are burning bridges... and those bridges have many votes on the other side...
Quit calling yourself a Republican.

It must be fun pretending to be someone else huh?
You are a 'proud' member of a party, and some of them call you names?

Time to change parties!
Only according to them. The rest of us know better. Happily it doesn't bother me much since their opinion means so little to me.
Liberal and conservative are labels- believe in what you wiull but when it comes to national policy rationality must prevail. Of course we want everyone to get health care, but if the federal government takes it over noone will have it.
Two posts here jump out at me as significant reasons the modern Republican Party has little to no appeal to Black and other Americans of color. Although I realize that the official stance of the party DOES NOT IN ANY SENSE support such statements, a problem is that neither will they come out and distance themselves from such statements. It seems that they are more interested in keeping a vote in their column than in destroying a belief attached to that vote.

The first post DEFINES civil liberties as ';special rights based on color and ethnicity';. All of us have Constitutionally protected civil rights and liberties. Civil Liberties are an AMERICAN right. NONE of us are supposed to have LESS of these rights and liberties. NONE of us are supposed to have MORE. And NONE of us are given SPECIAL rights and liberties. If the poster or anyone who supports such a contention can find provable instances of such Constitutional abuses, I will graciously admit my error and I'll work tirelessly to REMOVE these unfair roadblocks to our promise of equality and justice for all.

The second poster states that ';.......favoring race over merit go against everything for which the Republican party stands.'; Implied in that statement is a belief that ANOTHER ENTITY DOES forward the idea of ';race over merit.'; Again, given proof, I'll consider the merits of such a statement. Otherwise it is symbolic of a mal-formed conclusion drawn from paranoia and out-and-out lies. The fact is EVERYONE wants the BEST team working for them that they can assemble. MERIT is a BROAD term used to describe an ASSORTMENT of talents and skills, NOT a term to just describe ';good grades'; or longevity. In MANY instances that even the poster can cite, a need for specific skills and know-how WILL BE DESIRABLE over simply the highest SAT score. It is idiotic to think that PUTTING SOMEONE IN A JOB THAT THEY CAN'T DO ....is endemic of a ';particular'; political party or people.

To tell you the truth, universal health care goes against everything for which the Republican party stands because it is a socialist (hence liberal) idea. You're certainly not an old-school, Reagan- or Eisenhower-Republican. You might fit in better with the neo-Cons, (who really should be called pseudo-cons) who are more moderate, but still patriotic, as you seem to be. But, I'm sorry to tell you, that universal health care thing will send a rocket up any true Republican's @**. That's why your friends' visceral reaction is to simply dub you as a liberal.

To answer your last question, I too, have felt a little betrayed by the GOP. Since when did republicans value putting the needs of people who are here illegally before those of our legal citizens?

Edit: I have recinded my earlier comments regarding civil liberties, as they have nothing to do with affirmative action. Thank you other answerers for pointing out the error.
It isn't fair. They should be glad that you call yourself a Republican. It seems that if you have ONE view that is the same as a ';Liberal,'; you automatically don't belong because you're not a true Republican. This doesn't make sense. I am a Democrat and I have some Republican views, or slightly right wing views. Nobody is telling me that I am un-American, or anti-America or anything like that for it. I may be wrong, but it seems that Democrats are more willing to be open to other beliefs other than those of the core Democratic beliefs. I respect you for your beliefs and you are obviously not a ';Liberal.';
Keep Vick away from you pit bulls!

I own a couple of guns, have extensive holdings in the stock market, drive American cars, trucks and have 1 Black Lab, and I'm in favor of things like universal health care and civil liberties and I consider myself a moderate Democrat.
Because we know when we are having smoke blown up our posterior.

On talk radio they call them seminar callers. They are groups of people who call in to the shows and profess their love of all things Republican and Conservative; then they start to tout all of the great things that socialism can bring us; such as Universal Health Care.

This ';question'; is the seminar caller's cousin.

It is a tactic that has failed from the beginning. It took us about five seconds for the slower ';NeoCons'; to catch onto it.
noecons are moderate republicans not conservatives.

I am not sure what why you think the can take care of health but not your security (the reason for owning gun)

And I am not sure why you think people should be granted special rights based on skin color or ethnicity ( civil liberties)
NeoCons have a bad habit of isolating themselves from true Conservatives by attacking with idiotic 3rd grader types of insults.

It seems like Ron Paul would favorably

be your type of true Conservative,

except for the universal health care part

which he doesn't endorse.
neocons are liberals , their religion is liberalism
Stop being such a whiny baby and getting so hung up on political labels. Nobody cares about your stock, your guns or your ugly inbred dogs.

I'm sure those around you call you much worse than 'liberal' when you're not within earshot.
